How to Prepare For Public Speaking With Brainstorming
You may not have much time left to prepare for your public speaking. So what are the things you will for your public speech? Here are some pointers that you can use: 1. Brainstorming 2. Short-term goals 3. Long-term goals 4. Evaluation 5. Reflection Start with brainstorming. If you are in the process of writing your speech you will need to brainstorm the topic. For the next 10 minutes I want you to write as fast as you can, what you want for this speech. Once you are finished you will read aloud the notes you wrote down. As you write however, do not concern yourself with precision rather write down every thought that comes from your mind on the speech topic. ...

Public Speaking Fear? Why You SHOULD Be Afraid
Like most pubic speaking consultants, I usually hammer all the reasons a person should not be afraid of presenting. However, the more coaching I do, the more I realize the fear is legit. People should be afraid of getting in front of a group. While there is a lot to gain from speaking publicly, there is also a lot to lose. Here are seven reasons to be scared… Number One: No skill. Would you want someone repairing your car that knows nothing about mechanics? The average speaker receives no training, takes no classes, and doesn’t read one book on presenting. He or she expects to do an adequate job with no experience. Number Two: Not Fearing Death The OLD adage is that public...

Public Speaking: Say it with Flowers
A public speaking friend of mine had a deal with a local flower shop. When he had a program he would buy up all the fresh flowers that the flower shop could not sell. He got them for a really cheap price. The flowers were destined for the dumpster anyway so the florist was thrilled to get anything for them. The speaker would arrive to big fanfare throwing flowers into the crowd. Everyone got a flower to take home and depending on the size of the crowd, some would get a whole bouquet. He also sent big bunches as his thank you gift to the meeting organizer. He purposely sent so many that the organizer could not possibly take them all home. His good will (and name) was spread all over the...

Public Speaking: Ads

Author:
Tom Antion

You can concoct fake ads, or use real ads that are funny in your public speaking engagements. They can be read aloud, projected, or distributed as handouts.

* Watch for funny ads that relate to your business or presentation topic in magazines and other periodicals. Cut the ads out and photocopy for distribution as a handout or make them into slides and overheads. Jay Leno has a series of books called Headlines I, II, and III. Besides having really funny headlines from newspapers and magazines, the books have lots of blooper advertisements along with commentary from Jay. My favorite was the funeral monument company that advertised a lifetime replacement guarantee.

You can read these aloud in your public speaking engagements without worry of copyright infringement. Always attribute the source though. You don't want to claim material as your own if you did not create it.

*Be careful not to violate copyrights

How Speakers, Exhibitors, Consultants, and Meeting Planners Partner-Generate More Money and Value
• “Make Every Moment Count” is the title of a CD that a pharmaceutical company gave away at their exhibit booth at two major conferences. Half of the CD covered the company’s new product news and “how-to’s”; the other half featured tips from a speaker at those conferences. The gift was announced with on-the-seat cards during the speaker’s sessions. • A fullflilment house inserts a speaker’s “Communicate Clearly” tips sheets on top of the informational updates that the fulfillment house mails out on behalf of their corporate clients in the fields of insurance, credit and healthcare. The tips are a welcome relief from the important, but highly technical reading below it. The speaker provides the camera-ready tips to the fulfillment house that offers them as an extra benefit to their corporate clients. Those clients pay for reproduction. Each sheet has a line at the top, “(name of company) supports your personal success.” • The largest beer producer in India introduced an upscale beer for women. Hanging from a gold cord around the neck of each bottle is a card entitled, “Live Well” that promotes a free 3” x 3” book of 100 lifestyle tips for women buyers. Buyers get the book from their store when they turn in ten bottle caps. The book is co-authored by an American woman speaker and a popular Indian woman journalist. These are examples of cross-promotions among speakers and people from different industries or professions. Like all successful cross-promotions, they are aimed at better reaching and/or serving a mutual market. Successful cross-promotions build customer-attracting visibility and value. Unsuccessful joint promotions can create irritation and lose credibility. Some speakers are avid cross-promoters. ...

Public Speaking For Normal People
Silicon Valley entrepreneur Jason Freedman has done his share of public speaking, and despite the racing heartbeat and anxiety we all have, knows how to deliver a relaxed, natural presentation. Here’s how he does it. I just gave a presentation on 42Floors to 150 people. It went well. I was really proud of: 1) our team, 2) our product and 3) the way we were able to present it. It wa ...

5 Ways to Use Public Speaking to Build Your Client Base
I'd give anything to travel back in time and tell my eight-year-old self that I'd eventually build a business from public speaking. In third grade, opening my mouth and speaking my mind to a group of people was a recipe for public humiliation: voice habitually quavering, thoughts lost between my brain and my headgear, and shaking so intense that my classmates sparked a rumor that I suffered from ...

The Public Speaking Strategy
By Rhonda Campbell Public speaking is one of the most effective ways to get your message across to your target audience. That’s not all. You can meet influential business leaders at other organizations when you deliver keynote addresses at major events, people who can connect you to primary stakeholders in your industry. In fact, [...]
