Public Speaking: Learn Public Speaking Material Easily Using Bits (AKA Chunks or Series) |
|
A bit is a section of public speaking material that is so related that it makes it easy for you to memorize. Each point flows naturally from one to the next so you can deliver the information without notes (if you know your material). Until I learned about bits, I never thought I could be that great at speaking because I'm not great at memorizing long talks. I discovered that no one memorizes long talks. They have a mental or written outline consisting of key words that trigger the individual bit in their minds. Pros use this concept to be able to deliver long presentations to the public without the use of notes. Becoming less dependent on notes has several advantages. When you stand... |

Public Speaking: Show 'em When You Cross Cultures |
|
Regardless of one's nationality and culture, cartoons and comic strips are the most universally accepted format for humor in public speaking engagements. These pieces of visual humor are seen in newspapers and magazines in most areas of the world. They may be found in newsstands in large cities, or in large libraries. It might be fun to collect cartoons and comic strips when you travel so you have a ready supply when you need one for a speaking engagement. Be careful to avoid cartoons that have political overtones. If you are speaking to a small group, you can show the periodical or pass it around. If you want to use the cartoon or comic strip in a visual, you may need permission from the... |

Public Speaking: Vulnerability |
|
I learned a great public speaking tip, at the recent National Speakers Association convention while standing around talking shop in the hotel lobby. John Meluso
spent some time with me and noted that I was not showing any vulnerability at all near the beginning of my program. I would roll along and then tell a signature story at the END of my talk that bared all. John, pointed out to me that being the hard charging kind of public speaker that I am, that I probably have been alienating many of the more sensitive audience members. It is likely that my style ran over them right from the start and caused them to retreat for cover, thus making them very distant from me emotionally. Because... |

Public Speaking: Proverb Fortune Cookie Humor
Author:
Tom Antion
(Note: Determine if this is politically correct for your audience.) You can throw in a cute diversion to a boring public speaking engagement by attributing a saying to an ancient Chinese philosopher. Since these sayings are not attributed to anyone in particular, feel free to change or update them to fit your situation and to enhance their humor. (The term 'original' here means as original as something can be after being recited and translated for several hundred years.) Original: You cannot prevent the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from nesting in your hair. Update: You cannot prevent the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from pooping on your Gucci blazer. Original: He who walk on eggs should tread lightly. Update: He who walk on eggs should find out the price per dozen. Original: People who live in glass houses should not throw stones. How To Be Public Speakers? Check Out Public Speaking Courses |
|
Public speaking is an important course though most might think they do not need one. The skills you acquire in public speaking are certainly helpful in your everyday work routine, interacting with people and practically in your social life. In studying public speaking, you would learn to say what you mean, develop self-confidence, learn more about yourself and how to relate with others and of course enjoy the freedom of speech. A public speaking course would help you organize your thoughts so that your audience may fully understand your message the way you want them to understand it. You will learn, too, how to speak clearly but interestingly before an audience using verbal and non-verbal expressions. You acquire effective speaking and delivery techniques. Aside from these skills, you also develop sensitivity to the needs of others and the delivery of messages clearly with the aid of voice and body. It is a great lift for you if you are aware that you can express yourself well. This awareness results in satisfying self-esteem, and in the long run, courage and self-reliance. With this skill, you can face anything - impromptu interviews, speeches and talks. With these courses, you actually learn more about yourself. You reveal things that you do not know of and challenge yourself about the things that you know. You assess yourself on how much you know and how you explain it to others. While relating with others, you are discovering your strengths and weaknesses. Training yourself in public speaking will bring you to a more rewarding self-discovery. Aside from learning about yourself, you also get to learn how to relate to others. In public speaking, you become aware of their expectations and limitations.
