How to Become a More Entertaining Speaker
If you look up the word entertaining in the dictionary you will find that it means amusing, interesting and pleasing. So, to become a more entertaining speaker you must become more amusing, interesting and pleasing to the audience you are addressing. Here are a few practical suggestions to help you improve your entertainment quotient as a speaker. 1. Focus on the needs and wants of your audience. Remember that a bore is ME deep in conversation. How To Find Your Own Speaking Style
I recently posted a question to the world champion speakers of Toastmasters in our monthly phone conference. I asked them for some strategies that newbie speakers can adopt to identify their own speaking style. And they gave three. Thought I should share them with you. 1. Stage time, Stage time, Stage time! It is difficult to have your own speaking style until you are comfortable in front of your audience. And the only way you can be comfortable is by getting as much stage time as possible. In fact 95% of your growth takes place when you are out with your audience. One excellent platform for you to get maximum speaking exposure is by joining the Toastmasters International. Public Speaking: Frequency Check
It is pretty common to have multiple wireless microphones going during the same public speaking engagement. The AV crew that sets everything up usually makes sure that they are all on different frequencies so that no cross over occurs. You should still double check it anyway. BUT WHAT ABOUT MICE? When speaking in Thailand last week I ran into a situation that has never happened to me or the other seasoned presenter before. We each had a Logitech Trackman RF Mouse. RF stands for "Radio Frequency" which means that the wireless mouse doesn't have to be in line of sight with the receiver like an infra red mouse would. It also means that I couldn't keep my mouse from moving the cursor on his...

Public Speaking: Say it with Flowers

Author:
Tom Antion

A public speaking friend of mine had a deal with a local flower shop. When he had a program he would buy up all the fresh flowers that the flower shop could not sell. He got them for a really cheap price. The flowers were destined for the dumpster anyway so the florist was thrilled to get anything for them.

The speaker would arrive to big fanfare throwing flowers into the crowd. Everyone got a flower to take home and depending on the size of the crowd, some would get a whole bouquet.

He also sent big bunches as his thank you gift to the meeting organizer. He purposely sent so many that the organizer could not possibly take them all home.

His good will (and name) was spread all over the company he was speaking for and the people in the audience had a blast.

How To Be Public Speakers? Check Out Public Speaking Courses
Public speaking is an important course though most might think they do not need one. The skills you acquire in public speaking are certainly helpful in your everyday work routine, interacting with people and practically in your social life. In studying public speaking, you would learn to say what you mean, develop self-confidence, learn more about yourself and how to relate with others and of course enjoy the freedom of speech. A public speaking course would help you organize your thoughts so that your audience may fully understand your message the way you want them to understand it. You will learn, too, how to speak clearly but interestingly before an audience using verbal and non-verbal expressions. You acquire effective speaking and delivery techniques. Aside from these skills, you also develop sensitivity to the needs of others and the delivery of messages clearly with the aid of voice and body. It is a great lift for you if you are aware that you can express yourself well. This awareness results in satisfying self-esteem, and in the long run, courage and self-reliance. With this skill, you can face anything - impromptu interviews, speeches and talks. With these courses, you actually learn more about yourself. You reveal things that you do not know of and challenge yourself about the things that you know. You assess yourself on how much you know and how you explain it to others. While relating with others, you are discovering your strengths and weaknesses. Training yourself in public speaking will bring you to a more rewarding self-discovery. Aside from learning about yourself, you also get to learn how to relate to others. In public speaking, you become aware of their expectations and limitations. 5 Ways to Use Public Speaking to Build Your Client Base
I'd give anything to travel back in time and tell my eight-year-old self that I'd eventually build a business from public speaking. In third grade, opening my mouth and speaking my mind to a group of people was a recipe for public humiliation: voice habitually quavering, thoughts lost between my brain and my headgear, and shaking so intense that my classmates sparked a rumor that I suffered from ...
