Presentation Tips for Going from Being a "Good" to "Great" Speaker |
|
If you have been presenting on a regular basis, and are known as a “Good” speaker, what would make the difference so people would recognize you as a “Great” speaker? In this article, I highlight two areas that I feel can make that difference. Presence/Centering Great presenters have presence and are centered. Many times when I have tried to figure out why one speaker is so compelling while another is good – and pleasant to listen to – I have even said aloud, “The great one has presence.” What does that mean? Great presenters take time to focus, to come completely onto their balanced center. They have rid their minds of all the extraneous thoughts and are completely focused on... |

The 3 Deadly Sins of Motivational Speakers And How To Avoid Them |
|
As I survey the speaker’s market I’ve become a tad weary willfully wearing the title "Motivational Speaker". All speakers worth their salt seek to motivate or cause action. Maybe it's just me, but does the mere mention of the term "Motivational Speaker" conjure irritating mental pictures in your subconscious mind? There are far too many stereotypes being propagated regarding speakers. I will address a few of these speaker stereotypes and hopefully simultaneously construct a not-to-do list that aspiring speakers may use on their roads to success in the lucrative speaking industry. Motivational Speaker Stereotype Number One: The "Over-The-Top" Speaker The "Over-The-Top" Speaker or the... |

Public Speaking: The WOW! Factor
Author:
Tom Antion
What do you do during your public speaking presentations that cause the audience to say WOW? Dewitt Jones, a former photographer for National Geographic uses slides that literally give you goose pimples. Tom Ogden, an award winning magician from the Magic Castle in Los Angeles uses, what else, magic. Dave Gorden tells a story about Walt Disney. I use a special freeze frame video segment and shoot fire in the air. In fact, there are many things that you can use or do to make your audience say WOW! You may have great voice quality like my friend, author and former radio announcer, Rick Ott. You may use your appearance like professional speaker Larry Winget who wears funny glasses and ties. You might sing or play a musical instrument or juggle or use props. If you want to push your name up the memorability chart, put something unique in your speaking engagements that causes the audience members to go WOW! Become A Professional Speaker |
|
If you’re a natural talker, you should know that talk isn’t cheap—when it comes to the speaking circuit. In fact, you can actually earn more than $100,000 by delivering motivational speeches. Professional speakers are in high demand these days, thanks to the myriad of speaking opportunities available at schools, charitable functions, and professional workshops. Community organizations, religious institutions, and other groups are constantly on the lookout for speakers for their fundraising banquets, educational sessions, and other events. There is no standard educational requirement for professional speakers. After all, the late Peter Jennings, an acclaimed television news anchor and sought-after speaker, never finished college. However, generally speaking, the more education you have, the better, since educational achievement enhances your credibility as a speaker. For instance, if you have a PhD in bioethics, you’ll be in greater demand for speeches on stem cell research. However, even if you just have a standard bachelor of arts degree, you can still establish a career as a professional speaker. The most important qualification for becoming a professional speaker is the ability to deliver an entertaining, engaging speech in a dynamic fashion. You also need to be able to show that you’re an expert in the subject matter—whether it’s politics or the dangers of drug abuse. You can begin by delivering speeches in your local community—an experience which can lead to speaking invitations in other cities. It’s wise if you join Toastmasters, so that you can gain experience and learn from the experiences of other speakers. Once you have established yourself as a credible speaker, you can then sign on with a speakers’ bureau, a company which can publicize your... |
